Environmental Research Center Organizes a Lecture on Methane’s Impact on the Environment

As part of the cultural season activities, the Environmental Research Center held a scientific lecture titled “The Role of Methane in Global Warming and Environmental Pollution,” presented by Assistant Lecturer Talib Kamel.
The lecture discussed methane as the simplest hydrocarbon and a major component of natural gas, as well as its natural sources such as the anaerobic decomposition of organic matter and emissions from wetlands.
The speaker highlighted the significant danger posed by methane as one of the most potent greenhouse gases, despite its shorter atmospheric lifespan compared to carbon dioxide. The lecture also reviewed methane’s importance as an energy source and its role in chemical industries.
The session concluded by addressing the ongoing research efforts to reduce methane emissions and enhance its use as a clean energy source, with active engagement from the audience through questions and scientific discussions.
